Yoga means unity. It is the process of uniting the body and soul to create balance and harmony from within.
The art of yoga can also be used to increase concentration and productivity for people of all ages. Today, we are going to explore 7 yoga poses/ exercises that you can implement in your routine and improve concentration and memory to become more productive.
So, put on your yoga wear and some meditative music to get started:
1. The Yog Mudra or Salutation Seal
Oftentimes, we might feel distracted while working and this could have a direct impact on the quality of our work. Nevertheless, such situations do arise, and the Yog Mudra or Salutation Seal can help you achieve the composure and focus you need.
It is one of the easiest poses and can be performed by anyone. While in the Yog Mudra, close your eyes and take deep breaths. Slowly, you will feel all your distractions melt away and it will become easier to focus.
2. Vrikshasan or The Tree Pose
Vrikshasana or the Tree pose derives its name from the resemblance of the final posture to a tree. This pose is a beginner level asana and can be performed to perfection within a few days of practice.
There are several health benefits that come with ritually performing this posture. It increases balance, extends endurance, enhances neuromuscular co-ordination, and sharpens alertness and concentration.
3. Virasana or The Hero Pose
Virasana or the Hero Pose is one of the most potent yoga poses when it comes to creating both mental and physical balance.
Follow the directions shown in the video and add the posture to your regular exercise routine. This pose allows good blood flow to the lower half of the body, stretching the hips and inner thighs.
On a spiritual level, the Hero Pose creates conviction in one’s work and increases concentration.
4. Adho Mukha Svanasana or The Downward Dog Pose
The downward dog pose or Adho Mukha Svanasana is one of the most commonly taught yoga poses. It is known to strengthen the upper body and stretch the spine, hamstrings, and ankles.
This asana rejuvenates the nervous system and increases blood circulation while improving overall posture. All of these benefits factor in to improve your concentration and general awareness, positively impacting your productivity.
5. Ustrasana or The Camel Pose
Camel pose or Ustrasana is a yoga pose that stretches the upper body and spinal cord at the same time.
This pose has a calming effect on the mind and is one of the easiest poses you can try at any time to clear your head and increase productivity!
6. Tiryaka Tadasana or The Swaying Palm Tree Pose
Tiryaka Tadasana or the Swaying Palm Tree Pose is another great pose for clearing your mind to increase concentration levels.
Known for its positive effects on the central nervous system, this pose stretches the spinal cord and increases nervous system co-ordination to enhance productivity and concentration.
7. Tratak Kriya or concentration practice
While this is not a conventional yoga pose, Tratak Kriya is a meditative practice that is very much part of Yoga.
The exercise involves focusing on a candle flame or a black circle and breathing deeply. This will improve concentration and memory and could be implemented in your daily routine to help you dissolve all the distractions and stress away.
