6 Ways to Promote Happiness in your Life (International Day of Happiness)

While we all want to be happy in life, we tend to forget that happiness is a choice. But do you know how to choose or promote happiness in life?

Well, it is no rocket science! Being surrounded by your loved ones, appreciating little things of life, laughing, being optimistic, and like some ways to live a fulfilling and happy life.

While finding happiness in life is an individual journey, the following are some scientifically proven ways to make you happier!

1. Do something nice to others

Altruistic behaviour helps not only others but also you. Helping others boosts self-esteem and gives a sense of fulfilment; both are important factors to promote happiness. Try to help people around you as much as possible and see how that gives you a sense of satisfaction and makes you happy.

Likewise, being considerate of others and their feelings will also give you immense joy.

2. Meditate

Meditation is beneficial for overall physical and mental health as it gives us a sense of peace, calm and balance. If you find it difficult to concentrate or be content, try to meditate for at least 10 mins a day. It will surely increase your happiness with a sense of well-being.

However, you cannot see the results overnight. Thus, make a habit of including meditation in your daily life to see the wonders it can do to your mental health.

3. Go out and take a walk

According to The Atlantic ,

taking a walk outdoors helps cope with stress and anxiety and promote happiness. Walking is also a great physical exercise which is beneficial for your health.

No matter where you are, a long walk in the morning and evening clears the mental blockage and makes you happier with a sense of accomplishment.

4. Get in touch with nature

You cannot be sad for long near nature! Imagine how happy you feel when you see a waterfall or a beautiful meadow.

Thus, if you feel not the best about anything or yourself, spend time near nature. Being surrounded by nature calms your mind and makes you happy. You can also have some plants in your home or garden to wake up with a view of greenery!

5. Listen to your favourite music

You must have heard about music therapy. It is an approach that uses the therapeutic properties of music to improve emotional well-being and promote happiness

Music has the power to uplift your mood almost instantly. Thus, next time you feel low, tune in to your favourite music and sing along!

6. Have some good food

The nutrients in the food can actually stimulate our body’s feel-good hormones, such as serotonin and dopamine. Certain food items like sugar, chocolate, coffee, salt and fat are natural reward drivers.

Thus, when we consume these, the brain rewards us and releases dopamine, also known as reward hormone! Therefore, good food gives us pleasure and makes us happy!
