6 Hidden Indian Vacation Spots to visit when travelling resumes!

While it is not advisable to travel now, things are looking up as the first batch of Indians are being vaccinated.  

Since there is hope that you might be able to vacation this year and international travel might still take some time to normalize, we picked a few hidden domestic destinations.  

Once we are back to normal and vaccinated, here are 6 hidden places you can vacation in India

1. Touch the clouds in Laitmawsiang

If little hamlets on mountain tops are what you craved for in the last year, then journeying all the way to the deep east will quench your thirst. Situated in Meghalaya, Laitmawsiang is a small village in Khatarshnong Laitkroh Block of East Khasi Hills. The nearest airport to this hidden gem is Shella Airport. Laitmawsiang is also home to secluded caves like the Mawjymbuin and the Mawmluh. You can also visit Rainbow Falls in Sohra at a distance of 14.3 kms.

2. Lie down in the meadows of Doodhpathri

This Kashmir village is known for its beautiful meadows and idyllic scenery filled with grazing lambsLocated in the Budgam district, the village is 42 kms away from Srinagar.

3. Spot the conquerors of the sky at Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Almost all of us have at one time or another been amazed by how birds are able to take to the sky and fly over land into the clouds. If you are an ornithophile at heart, then visiting the Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in Goa will be the perfect weekend trip. Located on the Chorao island, it can be accessed by a ferry from Riband. The best time to visit is the migratory season when it is flocked by birds from the winter hinterlands.

4. Unfold your adventure at Badami Caves

Concealed in North Karnataka’s Bagalkot district, Badami Caves stands testimony to the architectural magnificence of the Chalukya dynasty. Once the capital of the kingdom during the 6th century, Bagalkot now remains out of the limelight, enabling it to become a spot only for true travel enthusiasts.  

Bagalkot is not well connected by air and its nearest airport is Hubli at a 110 km away. However, once normalcy resumes, you can avail train services from all major cities in the country. 

5. Go for a trek in Chopta

Travelling to Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district will lead you to a quaint base camp called ChoptaA trekker’s town, Chopta is quiet and the way to famous treks like Tungnath and ChandrashilaWith divine temples like Koteshwar, Kartik Swami, and Alka Puri, there is plenty of culture and spirituality to explore here. You can travel to Chopta from Haridwar by road, 230 km away.

6. Breathe in untouched nature at Loktak Lake

Filled by the waters of the Manipur river in Manipur, Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in India’s North-East. Also known as ‘floating lake’, this waterbody was given the name because of the large vegetation it supports, also making it a part of the Keibul Lamjao National Park. One can book cars from Imphal to Moirang, which is 30 kms away from Loktak Lake. Visiting this pristine scenery will be a welcome pause from all the noise around.
