5 Things you need to attend to for your Kids!

Last year’s unexpected turn of events locked our children indoors for several months and ‘back to normal’ may be farther down the road. Therefore, it is important that parents attend to all their needs during these new times and ensure their well-being.

So, here’s our list of 5 things we should attend to for our kids:

1. Their mental health

Well, it’s no surprise that little minds like to wonder.

But with this year being such a surprise, the staying at home might have brought thoughts in their mind that they are still trying to process. This could leave them anxious and sometimes, even depressed.

Therefore, it is important for parents to communicate with their children. Ask them what they think about day-to-day things. And if you feel that they are behaving differently, don’t shy away from consulting a child therapist or counsellor.

2. Their playtime

It’s imperative for children to have their playtime during the formative years.

This helps them grow both physically and mentally and adds several other soft skills to their persona.

While this was not even something to worry about before, the pandemic has significantly reduced play opportunities. So, make sure to build in a little workout routine for them at home and keep their activity levels normal.

3. Their education

Going to school and following a proper routine is a lot different than classes on a video call. Which is why your children may often find themselves distracted on the internet and fall back on their syllabus.

Make sure you follow up with them to find out the latest assignment deadlines and test dates, otherwise you might be in for an unpleasant surprise.

4. Their friends

While lockdown and social distancing has surely hindered your child’s social life, not having one at all can develop a disconnect in them with the outside world. It is important for children to be able to perceive a certain normalcy to feel secure.

To ensure this, you should encourage your child and other parents to get on video call and play games together to strengthen group bonds that have been strained by the pandemic. Remember, just updating homework requirements is not the only reason they have friends.

5. Their skills

One of the plus sides to the lockdown is the amount of time you have to spend with your child. But what do you do with it? Just focusing on keeping them happy and entertained may not be enough.

Try getting them into online courses and webinars of interest. Whether it is coding or DIY art, creating or learning to create things by themselves will trigger their intellect, keeping them sharp and hungry to learn.

While most of this list might seem obvious, missing out on them in today’s fast paced life is easy. Parents must remember that children thrive and develop well in balanced environments and providing them with one that has plenty of both worlds is the best way to ensure a bright future for them.
